Mary, this is really powerful. Thank you! I find the Marcus Aurelius section helpful. And the section on parenting hit really close to home. My son experienced real anxiety when he was 10-12 years old. There were factors like a major hurricane (he had to be pulled out the window of a car as it filled with water!) but the source of it turned out to how much Mom and Dad were stressed out and fighting (and drinking too much) about the finances. Good CBT and his parents dealing with our own anxiety and has gotten him back to being himself. Of course, now he's a teenager!!!!

Wow! I’m glad your son is back on track.

It’s amazing how what we think are the issues are so often not. The tangible stuff like hurricanes and flooding is easier than the stuff like beliefs and interpersonal tension.

As a cardiology NP, I worked frequently with this one patient who had so many other concerns that we never really got to his cardiac issues. He will tell you I was one of the “best cardiologists “ he ever had despite barely ever adjusting his medications. The intersection of mental health care and medical care has become so blurred. And I suppose that is a good thing. Now, how do we get the payors to recognize.
